Beatrice Egli Shares Her Dream of a Long Journey Around the World

Beatrice Egli has said she would one day like to step away from the stage and travel the world. The 38-year-old Swiss singer spoke about the wish on German television, but she has set no date and has not announced any break from performing. Her current tour continues over the coming weeks.

Egli made the comments on the ARD programme Schlagerwelt. “My dream is to go on a long trip around the world someday,” she said. She explained that she would like to take a complete pause from her many commitments in order to gain a fresh perspective, and to spend time getting to know other countries, cultures and people. She described the plan as a very big personal dream and said she believed its moment would eventually come.

The singer has been performing for more than 13 years, and she has been open about the toll that constant travel can take. In a separate appearance on the Giovanni Zarrella Show, she admitted that on some days she simply does not want to get on the road again. “I think people underestimate that a bit in our line of work,” she said. Her hope, she added, is to see the world for its own sake rather than only moving from one venue to the next.

The remarks come at a high point in her career. On Saturday 10 October, Egli became the first Swiss solo artist to headline Zurich’s Hallenstadion, a milestone blue News described as a piece of Swiss music history. The singer from the canton of Schwyz first came to wide attention in 2013, when she won the German talent show Deutschland sucht den Superstar. Since then she has built a long run of hits and has helped change how audiences view Schlager and Swiss-German pop. Before her Zurich show, she also gave blue News a short and light-hearted interview.

For fans, the message is that nothing changes in the short term. Egli’s Dance, Laugh, Live tour runs on in the weeks ahead, and she has given no indication of how long a future trip might last or when it could begin. What she has made clear is that the idea is a serious one. After more than a decade of touring, she sees a long journey as a way to recharge, and she appears content to wait until the timing feels right.
