Cameron Diaz unveiled a new hair colour at a star-studded wedding in Santa Barbara on Saturday 10 October. The 54-year-old actress, long associated with blonde hair, arrived at the marriage of Matthew Lowe and Emily Markus with an ashy brunette shade and lighter highlights around her face and through the ends.
Diaz wore her long hair with a deep side parting, a softer and darker look than the blonde styles that have defined much of her career. Her short blonde cut in There’s Something About Mary in 1998 remains one of her most recognisable hairstyles. She paired the new colour with a silky black minidress featuring a V neckline and flowing sleeves, and was photographed alongside the actress Zoe Saldaña. The darker lengths and brighter pieces around the face give the colour a softer, lived-in finish rather than a single flat shade, and the side parting adds volume at the crown.
It is not the first time she has gone darker. In 2006, while promoting The Holiday, Diaz appeared with brunette hair even though her character, Amanda Woods, was blonde on screen. She also wore a light brunette shade at the 79th Academy Awards, and images from The Holiday press tour show her with a deeper colour and side-swept fringe. The latest change is the most striking in some time, coming during one of her rare public outings since becoming a mother for the third time.
The wedding itself drew a crowded guest list. The groom, 33, is the eldest son of Rob Lowe and Sheryl Berkoff, and he and Emily became engaged in July 2025. Gwyneth Paltrow officiated, and guests included Katy Perry, Chris Pratt, Adam Levine, Behati Prinsloo and Maria Shriver, along with Matthew’s younger brother, John Owen Lowe. Diaz has kept a low profile since her husband, the Good Charlotte musician Benji Madden, announced the birth of their third child, a son named Nautas, on 4 May. The couple married in 2015 and also have a daughter, Raddix, born in December 2019, and a son, Cardinal, whose arrival was announced in March 2024. They keep their children out of photographs. Her screen career has picked up again after a long break, with Netflix’s Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx in January 2025 and a role in Jonah Hill’s Apple TV comedy Outcome, which premiered in April and also stars Keanu Reeves.
