Roger Federer has reportedly moved into his new lakeside home in Rapperswil-Jona with his family. The regional newspaper Linth-Zeitung said the tennis great is now living at the property in the canton of St. Gallen, citing people close to the building site. The move comes after almost seven years of construction on the shore of Lake Zurich.
The estate is large by any measure. It covers roughly 17,000 square metres and includes six buildings, an underground car park and a private tennis court, along with other facilities added in recent years. According to the Linth-Zeitung, the work is not entirely finished, and gardeners were still busy with the final touches to the grounds when the newspaper made its enquiries. Rapperswil-Jona lies at the upper, eastern end of Lake Zurich, and the plot sits directly on the water.
There has been no official word from the family. Federer’s family office did not reply to the paper’s questions, and the city of Rapperswil-Jona declined to give any information, citing privacy. Several signs point to the family having arrived, however. The buildings are furnished, lights can be seen in the evenings, and former construction workers are said to have told the newspaper that the Federers now live there.
The project ran far behind its original schedule. The family had hoped to move in as early as 2021, but a series of objections to the development slowed it down considerably, leaving the family waiting several more years for a house they had expected to occupy at the start of the decade. A caption published alongside the report notes that numerous objections held up construction of the estate. The house is also not the only major project in the immediate area. A second large building site sits directly next door, where just under 20 luxury flats are going up. That neighbouring construction work apparently did not deter the family from taking up residence.
For now, the arrival rests on the newspaper’s sources rather than any statement from the 20-time Grand Slam champion, who retired from professional tennis in 2022. Neither his office nor the city has been willing to discuss it. If the reports are accurate, the family has moved in roughly five years later than first planned, with the last of the garden work still under way and a neighbouring building site next door still busy.
